Timber/Aluminum Lift and Slide Doors: the Internorm HS 330
Natural timber inside, powder-coated aluminum outside and an engineered LVL core between them. The HS 330 is Internorm’s lift & slide door for homes built around natural materials, with tall glass that still glides open with a light push.
Why timber inside and aluminum outside
Timber is the one frame material that feels like the rest of a finished interior: the floor, the stair, the kitchen cabinetry. On a door that may be the widest element in the house, that matters. Aluminum is the material you want facing a Canadian winter. It needs no painting, stands up to sun, rain and snow, and holds its powder-coated colour.
The HS 330 combines both. The interior is natural timber, factory-finished; the exterior is aluminum cladding in your choice of RAL colour; and the frame between them is engineered for stiffness. With triple glazing of 48 to 54 mm it reaches Uw values as low as 0.73 W/m²K and sound reduction of 32–40 dB, and it is suitable for Passive House and Net Zero homes.
It suits architect-designed homes, cottages and timber-framed houses, where window and door frames are meant to be seen as part of the interior finish rather than hidden.
Timber species and finishes
Every HS 330 arrives with its timber factory-finished in a durable varnish or lacquer, sealed and ready to install. There is no sanding or staining on site after the door is in.
Spruce, varnished
Light, even grain and the most neutral of the four species. Suits Scandinavian-style rooms and pale floors.
Spruce, painted
Spruce can be painted opaque in any RAL colour, so the inside of the door can match your trim, walls or millwork while keeping a timber frame.
Larch, varnished
A warmer, more strongly figured softwood that sits naturally in cabin and cottage interiors.
Oak
A hardwood with pronounced grain and a substantial, classic look, often chosen to match oak flooring or stair treads.
Walnut
The darkest option, with deep brown tones for formal living rooms, dens and dining rooms.

An LVL core and a factory finish
Inside the HS 330 frame is a high-strength LVL (laminated veneer lumber) core. Because LVL is built from bonded layers of veneer, it resists the warping, twisting and movement that can affect solid timber, and it gives the frame the load-bearing capacity to carry very large glass.
That stability matters in Canada, where indoor air swings from dry and heated in winter to humid in summer. A frame that stays straight keeps its seals in even contact, so the door keeps closing tightly and running smoothly through every season.
The timber is finished at Internorm’s factory in Austria before the door ships. Many local timber/aluminum suppliers deliver unfinished wood that has to be coated after installation; with the HS 330 the protection is there from day one, and there is no finishing trade to schedule on site.

Larger elements, with glass up to 3.2 m tall, are possible following technical clarification. Achieved values depend on size and glazing.

Planning a tall, wide opening
The HS 330 is built for generous openings. Internorm makes it up to 580 × 280 cm as standard, with larger elements and glass up to 3.2 m tall possible after technical clarification, and sashes of up to 400 kg still move with a light push on the lift & slide hardware.
Its glass is bonded to the frame on all four sides. That bond makes the pane part of the structure, which keeps a big sash stiff and adds to its burglary protection.
For an even bigger glass wall, the HS 330 can be combined with fixed glazing; when the fixed element’s frame is rendered into the wall, the glass appears frameless beside the sliding sash. If you want a large fixed panorama elsewhere in the room, look at HX 300 frameless glazing, also timber/aluminum.
At this scale the door is a structural decision. We coordinate with your engineer and builder on the header, how flat the floor stays under the track, and how the elements will be lifted into place.
Pairing the HS 330 with timber/aluminum windows
The HS 330’s colour options are set up to combine with Internorm’s timber/aluminum windows: the all-rounder HF 410, the slim, square-edged HF 510, and the HV 450 with integrated blinds. Internorm specifically suggests pairing the HF 510 with the HS 330 because they share the same timber options, so the oak of the door and the oak of the windows match.
Because every Internorm timber/aluminum and uPVC/aluminum product is aluminum on the outside, you can also change materials room by room without changing the facade. A common plan is timber in the living areas and bedrooms, where its warmth is most noticed, and uPVC/aluminum windows in bathrooms and other humid rooms, where uPVC is the more practical surface.
Security, sound and everyday use
Concealed multi-point locking
The locks engage as the sash lowers onto its seals, hidden in the frame. An upgrade to resistance class RC 2 is available.
32–40 dB sound reduction
With the right glazing, the HS 330 keeps traffic and neighbourhood noise outside, even with a large share of the wall in glass.
Comfort Drive
Electric operation moves a heavy timber/aluminum sash at the push of a button, and an ekey fingerprint scanner on the frame can replace the key from outside.
Matching insect screens
Sliding or pleated Harmony screens, framed in the exterior colour, with pollen-reducing or ultra-fine mesh options.
Passive House and Net Zero
Triple glazing and an insulated timber/aluminum frame make the HS 330 suitable for Passive House and Net Zero homes. We aim to quote Passive House projects within 72 hours.
HS 330 or KS 430?
Choose the HS 330 for natural timber inside, glass taller than 2.8 m, or a door that matches HF timber/aluminum windows. Choose the KS 430 uPVC/aluminum for the lowest Uw in the Internorm lift & slide range (0.64 W/m²K), an easy-care uPVC interior or an I-tec Decor print.
“This was a VIP experience from start to finish. Fast, friendly and effective service. It really helped that Vik is an architect, she was able to guide us through the entire process and coordinated directly with our designer. The windows are top-notch, but the service was better than the product.”
Timber/aluminum lift & slide door questions
The interior timber arrives factory-finished in a durable varnish or lacquer, and the exterior is aluminum, so the wood only ever sees indoor conditions. Regular dusting and gentle cleaning keep it looking right; we leave care advice at handover.
The HS 330 is built around a high-strength LVL core, made from bonded veneer layers, which resists warping, twisting and movement. That keeps the frame straight and the seals in even contact through dry winters and humid summers.
Choose from Spruce, Larch, Oak and Walnut, or have Spruce painted in any RAL colour. Bring a sample of your flooring or millwork when you visit our Oakville showroom and we will help you choose.
The two doors use different frame constructions: timber/aluminum on an LVL core versus multi-chamber uPVC. The HS 330 reaches 0.73 W/m²K and the KS 430 0.64 W/m²K. Both are triple glazed, and for a Passive House energy model your consultant will use the exact values for your size and glazing.
Yes. Our showroom at 217 Speers Rd. Unit 8 in Oakville has Internorm windows and lift & slide doors on display, so you can feel how lightly a large sash lifts and slides.
Yes. The exterior uses the same aluminum colour ranges as Internorm’s timber/aluminum and uPVC/aluminum windows, so door and windows can be finished identically.
