Wood Aluminum Windows in Ontario, With the Warmth of Real Timber
Internorm's HF windows pair a real-timber interior in Spruce, Larch, Oak or Walnut with a powder-coated aluminum exterior that takes the weather. A moisture-resistant laminated core keeps the timber straight, and premium glazing delivers 73% light permeability, even in XL sizes.
Wood where you live, aluminum where it rains
A solid wood window asks a lot of its owner. Its outer face is exposed to rain, UV and freezing, and it has to be refinished on a schedule. Internorm, a pioneer of the timber-aluminum window, keeps the timber indoors instead. The room side of every HF window is factory-finished wood; the outside is a powder-coated aluminum shell that protects against rain, wind and extreme temperature swings and keeps its appearance for decades with virtually no maintenance.
Between the two layers, a bond of timber, thermal foam and aluminum provides the insulation. That is why the HF frames reach excellent thermal values at a construction depth of just 85 to 90 mm, whichever timber you choose.
Unlike many shorter-lived timber-aluminum products made locally, an Internorm HF window is built so that, with good care, it lasts a generation. For homeowners, that means one replacement decision instead of several. For architects, it means a natural interior material that can go into a Passive House or Net Zero envelope without compromise.
Four timbers, each with its own finishes
Each species comes in its own set of stains and finishes, including varnished and oiled options. Timber is a natural product, so grain and shade vary from window to window. We keep samples in the showroom so you can judge them in daylight.
Spruce
Pale, fine and even-grained, Spruce is the quietest of the four and an easy partner for light floors and Scandinavian-style interiors. Offered in several shades.
Larch
Warmer in tone with a more pronounced grain, Larch brings an alpine character that suits cottages and timber-framed homes. Available varnished or oiled.
Oak
Hard-wearing with a strong, open grain, Oak works in classic and modern rooms alike. It offers the widest choice of shades, including oiled versions and a grey oak suited to minimalist interiors.
Walnut
Deep and rich, Walnut is the statement choice for dining rooms, studies and darker palettes, and makes a striking contrast with a light exterior colour.

A laminated core that resists twisting and moisture
Solid timber moves. As humidity and temperature change, a solid section can twist, warp or split, and a window that moves eventually leaks. Internorm's patented I-tec Core uses LVL instead: thin layers of timber laminated into a dense, uniform section.
LVL has a much lower tendency to twist, warp or split when exposed to moisture and extreme temperatures. That stability is what lets Internorm build larger windows and XL glass openings without worrying about structural integrity, while keeping the frames slim.
In Canada, that matters most where the climate is wettest and most changeable. Because the LVL core is highly resistant to moisture, the HF range is an ideal selection for coastal homes, lakefront cottages and any site that combines high humidity with big temperature swings.
HF 410, HF 510 and HF 520 compared
All three use triple glazing, concealed hardware and the same aluminum exterior. Choose by the look you want and how much frame you want to see.

Figures from the Internorm 2026/27 catalogue and InterHaus product data; final values depend on size and glazing.
Built for big glass and bright rooms
73% light permeability
Premium glass coatings keep thermal protection high while letting daylight flood in, even in XL sizes.
48 mm triple glazing
Triple-glazed units with a premium glass coating for UV protection on every window in the range.
I-tec Glazing as standard
In every timber-aluminum system the glass is bonded to the frame all the way round, for stability and burglary protection.
Timber, foam, aluminum
The timber-thermal foam-aluminum bond insulates at a shallow depth, independent of the timber species.
Factory-finished wood
The timber arrives finished from Internorm’s Austrian production, not stained on site, for an even and durable surface.
Quiet rooms
Triple gaskets and triple glazing deliver up to 47 dB of sound reduction on the HF 510 and HF 520.

Timber in the living room, uPVC in the bathroom
Internorm fits the same aluminum cladding to its timber-aluminum and uPVC/aluminum windows, so you never have to commit one material to the whole house. The exterior stays uniform while the interior follows the room.
Timber suits living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, where its warmth and tactile comfort are felt every day. In bathrooms and other high-humidity rooms, the non-porous surface of uPVC/aluminum is the more practical partner. The HF 510 matches the KF 510, and the HF 520 matches the KF 520.
Large openings follow the same logic. The HS 330 lift & slide door comes in the same timber options as the HF 510, and the HF 410 combines with HX 300 fixed glazing, whose panes reach up to 10.5 m², for panoramic walls that still read as one design.
A natural material, with the paperwork to prove it
The interior timber is a renewable, responsibly sourced material, and Internorm holds PEFC certification for products from sustainable forestry. For clients and architects tracking embodied carbon, that is a verifiable starting point rather than a marketing line.
The glass matters too. Low-carbon iPlus thermal glazing is standard in all Internorm products. Its 4 mm low-carbon float glass has a footprint of 5.8 kg CO2-eq/m², against 10.6 kg for standard float glass, contains at least 50% recycled content and has a third-party verified EPD. Every window is made in Austria at Internorm's three plants in Traun, Sarleinsbach and Lannach, which run on green electricity and photovoltaic systems totalling 3,300 kWp.
The most sustainable window, though, is the one you never replace. Internorm's 30-year repair assurance means HF windows can be kept fully functional for three decades, and with good care the windows are built to last a generation. Our Passive House page shows how they fit an energy-conscious build.
Opening versions
HF windows are made as tilt & turn, tilt-only and fixed units, in any combination within one frame, plus lockable doors and doors with a threshold for balconies and terraces. Pairing fixed panes with operable sashes in the same timber finish keeps a wide window wall calm and consistent inside.

“This was a VIP experience from start to finish. Fast, friendly and effective service. It really helped that Vik is an architect, she was able to guide us through the entire process and coordinated directly with our designer. The windows are top-notch, but the service was better than the product.”
Timber-aluminum questions
The timber sits indoors, protected from rain, snow and UV by the aluminum shell, and it is finished at the factory. The I-tec Core LVL in Internorm's timber-aluminum windows is highly resistant to moisture and far less prone to twisting or splitting than solid timber.
Start with your floors and millwork. Spruce and Oak suit lighter, modern interiors; Larch brings warmth and visible grain; Walnut makes a darker, more formal statement. Because grain and colour vary naturally, see the samples in person at our Oakville showroom before deciding.
Treat it like fine interior joinery: dust and wipe it gently, and keep indoor humidity in check by ventilating regularly, especially in bedrooms and kitchens. The tilt position makes that easy. The Internorm Maintenance, Care and Warranties Manual supplied with your windows covers the details.
It is a sign of good insulation. So little heat escapes through the glazing that the outer pane stays cold, and after a cold night, moisture in the outside air can condense on it. It clears once the temperature rises.
Yes. The HF range suits Passive House and Net Zero construction, with Uw values from 0.64 W/m²K on the HF 410. We provide technical support for architects and builders, and Passive House projects get a quote within 72 hours.
Each has a case. Timber is renewable and comes from PEFC-certified sustainable forestry, while Internorm's uPVC can be recycled up to seven times. Both use the same low-carbon glass and both last for decades, which is the biggest environmental factor of all. Mix and match lets you use each where it makes most sense.
