Overview

Two materials, each doing the job it’s best at

In the uPVC/aluminum KF 510, the multi-chamber uPVC core handles insulation and the aluminum handles the weather. A powder-coated shell covers the exterior faces of frame and sash, so the part of the window that takes sun, sleet and spray from a salted road is metal with a highly weather-resistant finish, while the room side stays smooth uPVC in white or dark grey.

Everything else carries over from the all-uPVC version: the 70 mm frame and 25 mm sash, the square home pure styling, I-tec Insulation in the chambers, I-tec Glazing and the concealed I-tec Secure lock. The shell adds 3 mm, taking construction depth from 90 mm to 93 mm, and lifts sound reduction to 34–48 dB. Uw remains as low as 0.64 W/m²K.

This is the version to choose when the exterior colour carries the design: a black frame on a modern farmhouse, a fine-structure metallic against natural stone, or a stainless-steel look beside dark cladding. It is also the KF 510 that matches Internorm’s timber/aluminum HF 510 from the street.

Inside the aluminum-clad KF 510

Weather-resistant powder coating

Internorm’s HM, HF and HFM coatings are its highly weather-resistant grades, developed to keep exterior colours stable on sunny, exposed elevations.

Up to 48 dB

Three gaskets and triple glazing give 34–48 dB, the top figure in Internorm’s uPVC/aluminum window range. Worth having beside a highway, a rail line or under a flight path.

Insulated and reinforced 360°

The frame is insulated and reinforced all the way round under Grade A aluminum, so the hybrid expands and contracts less than many single-material frames.

I-tec Secure as standard

Concealed flaps lock the sash into the frame on all sides: RC 2 N with the lockable handle, up to RC 3 on request.

I-tec Insulation

Granules fill the hollow chambers of the uPVC core, keeping the clad window within 0.01 W/m²K of the all-uPVC version’s Uw.

Exterior colour families for the aluminum shell

The interior stays white or dark grey uPVC. Outside, choose from four Internorm colour families or the RAL programme. Ask to see original samples before you decide: printed swatches can differ from the real coating.

Standard colours (HM)

Highly weather-resistant powder coatings from whites to deep greys, plus RAL 9005 and RAL 7032. M916 is the one exception, rated facade quality.

Hirest colours (HF, HFM)

A fine-structure surface (HF) or fine-structure metallic (HFM), both in a special highly weather-resistant powder coating. Subtle texture that reads well on modern facades.

HDS colours

Intensive, saturated colours for a facade that should stand out. Internorm notes that slight colour variation is possible.

Stainless-steel look

EL01 matt and EL02 gloss give the shell the look of steel, a crisp partner for glass, concrete and dark timber cladding.

RAL programme

For an exact architectural match, Internorm’s RAL colour programme (facade quality) covers the exterior of the aluminum cladding.

Interior uPVC

White for a bright, classic room side, or dark grey to tie in with concrete, dark floors or black hardware.

Mix and match

Pair the KF 510 with timber HF 510 windows

Internorm designed the KF 510 and the timber/aluminum HF 510 to share the same exterior aluminum cladding. From the street, a house fitted with both looks completely uniform; inside, each room gets the material that suits it.

A sensible split is uPVC in kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms and basements, where humidity and splashes are part of daily life, and spruce, larch, oak or walnut in the living room, dining room and principal bedroom. You keep one consistent elevation and still give your designer the interiors they want.

The idea extends to doors: the KS 430 lift-slide is also available with aluminum cladding for the patio opening. Read more in the art of mix and match, or compare the HF 510 timber/aluminum window.

Thermal performance

Holding heat through freeze-thaw and wind

Canadian winters test windows with swings as much as with cold: a frigid night followed by a sunny afternoon on a dark frame. A hybrid like this one, a uPVC frame insulated and reinforced all the way round under a Grade A aluminum shell, expands and contracts less than many other frame materials, which helps it keep its shape and its seal through freeze-thaw cycles.

On energy, Internorm lists the clad KF 510 at Uw 0.72 W/m²K with the standard coating and as low as 0.64 W/m²K with the optimum glazing. Because a well-specified triple-glazed unit (Ug) outperforms the frame (Uf), bigger windows actually perform better, and the slim 95 mm sightline gives more of every opening to the better-performing glass.

Three gaskets keep the window airtight against wind-driven snow and draughts. On an exposed lakefront or rural lot that matters as much as the U-value, and the higher acoustic rating is a bonus where wind noise is constant. For Net Zero and certified builds, see our Passive House page.

Locked on four sides, even when you’re away
Security

Locked on four sides, even when you’re away

Every KF 510 carries I-tec Secure, a locking system made only by Internorm. In place of the usual pins, flaps hidden in the sash open as the handle turns and press into the frame interior on every side, which makes levering the window out virtually impossible.

As delivered, the clad KF 510 reaches RC 2 N with the optional lockable handle; on request it can be built to RC 3, the top class in Internorm’s uPVC/aluminum range. The Secustik handle, listed as standard for the KF 510, adds a patented jamming device so the lock can’t be shifted from outside.

For a cottage or a house that sits empty for part of the winter, Internorm also offers handle-operated opening sensors that report by radio or cable whether each window is open, tilted or locked. A turn lock limits a sash to tilting only, and a lockable handle keeps children from swinging a bedroom window fully open.

Configure each opening

The KF 510 is built as fixed lights and as tilt-only, turn-only or tilt & turn sashes, singly or combined in one frame. A tilt & turn sash beside a fixed light frames a view and still lets you ventilate the room.

KF 510 uPVC/Aluminum: your questions

You don’t need it for durability; the all-uPVC KF 510 is built for the same climate. The shell earns its place through colour and matching: Internorm’s full exterior palette, including metallic and stainless-steel looks, and an exterior identical to the HF 510 timber/aluminum window. It also brings the higher sound reduction figure of up to 48 dB.

Both, depending on how the window is ordered. I-tec Secure is standard, and with the optional lockable handle the KF 510 achieves RC 2 N. Internorm builds it up to RC 3 on request. Tell us which rooms need the higher class and we’ll specify each window accordingly.

All HM standard colours and the hirest HF and HFM finishes use Internorm’s highly weather-resistant powder coating. M916 is rated facade quality, so on a sunny, exposed elevation it is worth choosing an HM or hirest finish instead.

The aluminum shell adds 3 mm to the 90 mm uPVC frame. Your architect or builder should draw the installation detail and size the rough opening to 93 mm.

Internorm rates the clad KF 510 at 34–48 dB of sound reduction, depending on the glass build-up. Tell us about the noise source, whether traffic, rail or aircraft, and we’ll specify glass for it. Our article on noise cancellation explains the options.
