Schüco Aluminum Windows, Engineered in Germany for Canadian Seasons
Schüco’s AWS window systems and FWS 50.SI façade bring German precision, slim aluminum frames and triple-glazed insulation to Ontario homes. InterHaus supplies and installs them across Canada, on their own or alongside Internorm windows on the same project.
A building-envelope specialist, not just a window brand
Schüco is a world leader in aluminum building-envelope systems, designed and manufactured in Germany. Its portfolio runs from tilt & turn windows and floor-to-ceiling sliding doors to curtain walls and custom entrance systems, so one manufacturer can cover the whole glazed envelope of a house.
The profiles are made from the highest grade of aluminum and engineered to European standards for security, noise reduction, sustainability and comfort. In practice that means a slim frame that can carry large glass, insulated and thermally broken so it performs through an Ontario winter, and a look that suits contemporary architecture as comfortably as a traditional house.
For homeowners, the appeal is quiet, bright rooms with very little frame in the way. For architects, it is a system with published performance data, fully concealed hardware and a choice of depths to suit the wall. InterHaus brings Schüco to Canada alongside Internorm, so you can specify both from one supplier.
The Schüco systems we supply
Three Schüco products cover most residential briefs: two AWS window depths and a façade system for walls of glass.

AWS 75.SI+
The shallower AWS window: a 51 mm frame and 40 mm sash at 85 mm depth. Uw as low as 0.88 W/m²K and sound reduction up to 40 dB, with Schüco fully concealed hardware. A strong choice for renovations and walls where depth is limited.

AWS 90.SI+
The high-insulation AWS window: a 56 mm frame and 43 mm sash at 100 mm depth. Uw as low as 0.71 W/m²K and up to 45 dB. Offered in Passive House Institute certified configurations, with the structural strength for large architectural openings.

FWS 50.SI façade
Schüco’s façade system for glass walls, stairwells and gables. A 50 mm profile width, depths up to 255 mm, Uw as low as 0.7 W/m²K and sound reduction of 34–48 dB.
Schüco window and façade data
Published figures for the three systems. Best-case values depend on glazing, unit size and configuration, so we confirm performance for your actual openings before you order.

AWS 75.SI+ or AWS 90.SI+? Start with the wall
The two AWS systems look closely related from inside the room, but they are built for different walls. AWS 75.SI+ is 85 mm deep; AWS 90.SI+ is 100 mm. The deeper system uses advanced thermal breaks and insulated profile chambers, which is why it improves the best-case Uw from 0.88 to 0.71 W/m²K and the acoustic rating from 40 to 45 dB.
In a new, well-insulated wall, AWS 90.SI+ is usually the logical choice, especially on a Passive House or net-zero project. In a renovation, where the existing opening and wall build-up limit how deep a frame can sit, AWS 75.SI+ often fits more comfortably while still delivering triple-glazed, thermally broken performance.
You can also mix them: the deeper system on exposed walls and bedrooms, the slimmer one where the wall is shallower. Either way, we check where the frame sits within the wall section so it lines up with the insulation layer and cold bridges are kept to a minimum.
What Schüco brings to a Canadian winter and a GTA summer
Schüco’s performance rests on a few engineering basics, each of which matters in a climate that swings from deep freeze to humid heat.
Thermally broken frames
Insulated aluminum profiles with thermal breaks keep the inner frame surface closer to room temperature, so the window is comfortable to sit beside in January.
Triple glazing
Triple-glazed units cut heat loss in winter and help keep rooms cooler through hot, humid summers, lowering heating and cooling costs.
Airtight seals
Airtight sealing stops the drafts and cold air leaks that make a room feel colder than the thermostat says.
Noise reduction
Up to 45 dB on AWS 90.SI+ and up to 48 dB on the FWS 50.SI façade, useful near highways, rail lines and busy city streets.
Concealed security hardware
Fully concealed Schüco hardware and robust aluminum profiles give strong protection against forced entry with a clean appearance.
Tailored to the house
Finishes, colours, glazing and opening styles are chosen per project, for contemporary or traditional homes, new builds or renovations.

When the window becomes the wall
Some openings are too big, or too architectural, for a window frame. A double-height living room, a glazed stair tower, a gable end facing a view or a glass link between two volumes all call for a façade system, and FWS 50.SI is Schüco’s answer for those moments.
With a 50 mm profile width and depths up to 255 mm, it is designed to span large areas of glass rather than frame a single opening. Performance stays high: Uw as low as 0.7 W/m²K, the best-case figure among the Schüco systems we supply, and sound reduction between 34 and 48 dB.
Because the façade and the AWS windows come from the same manufacturer, opening windows and fixed glass can share one finish and a consistent visual weight across the elevation.
When to choose Schüco over an Internorm hybrid
Internorm is a leader in Passive House certified windows, with triple glazing, I-tec technologies and hybrid frames that pair an aluminum exterior with a uPVC or timber interior. If a warm timber reveal or the lowest possible heat loss is the priority, an Internorm timber/aluminum window or uPVC/aluminum window is often the better buy, and we will say so.
Schüco earns its place where aluminum is the design: slim frames inside and out, large structural openings, glass façades, and projects where the architect wants one aluminum system across windows, sliding doors and curtain wall. You don’t have to pick one brand for the whole house, though. Combinations that work well include:
- Internorm triple-glazed Passive House windows in the bedrooms, with Schüco aluminum sliding doors on the large openings.
- Internorm timber/aluminum windows for warm interiors, with a Schüco aluminum curtain wall on the main façade.
- An Internorm entrance door alongside Schüco panoramic glazing for a bold, contemporary front elevation.
- Internorm HX 300 frameless fixed glazing where the frame should disappear, with Schüco AWS windows for the opening sashes.
“This was a VIP experience from start to finish. Fast, friendly and effective service. It really helped that Vik is an architect, she was able to guide us through the entire process and coordinated directly with our designer. The windows are top-notch, but the service was better than the product.”
Working with architects and builders
Schüco projects tend to start on an architect’s drawing board. Our product specialists have an architectural background and are comfortable working at that level of detail.

Schüco aluminum windows: common questions
Both can work. Schüco AWS 90.SI+ is certified for Passive House applications when configured appropriately, and Internorm offers a broad range of Passive House certified windows. The choice usually comes down to the look you want: slim all-aluminum frames point to Schüco, a timber or uPVC interior points to Internorm. InterHaus quotes Passive House projects within 72 hours.
Schüco frames are insulated and thermally broken, so the inner aluminum is separated from the cold outer shell. Combined with triple glazing and airtight seals, AWS 90.SI+ reaches Uw values as low as 0.71 W/m²K, a long way from the cold aluminum windows many Canadians remember.
Yes. Schüco offers energy-efficient tilt & turn windows, alongside floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and custom entrance systems. We confirm the opening types for each AWS system when we review your drawings.
AWS 75.SI+ reaches up to 40 dB of sound reduction and AWS 90.SI+ up to 45 dB; the FWS 50.SI façade ranges from 34 to 48 dB. The glazing build-up affects the final figure, so tell us about the noise source and we will specify accordingly.
Start with the depth of the existing wall. AWS 75.SI+ is 85 mm deep and often fits renovation openings more easily; AWS 90.SI+ is 100 mm deep and offers the better insulation. We review the wall section with you before recommending one.
