Internorm Window Projects: Passive House, Cottages and Custom Homes
From a Passive House residence in Etobicoke to a cottage in Québec and a renovation in Ottawa, these are homes where InterHaus supplied European windows and doors. Here is what we supply, what each kind of project asks of the windows, and how a project runs from drawings to handover.
The projects we work on
InterHaus supplies European windows and doors for homes where performance is part of the brief. We supply and install across Canada, and many of our projects are in Ontario and Québec. The common thread is not size or budget but ambition: owners, architects and builders who want a house that stays warm without drafts, quiet without feeling sealed off, and bright without paying for it in heating.
The homes below are a cross-section of that work: Passive House residences, a lakeside cabin and a hillside cottage, private custom homes and renovations. Every window in them was made to measure for its opening, with the material, glazing and hardware chosen for the building rather than picked from a standard list.
Selected projects
Seven homes, from Devil Lake Cabin to a renovation in Ottawa. Job-site photos from each one are in the project gallery.

What each kind of project asks of the windows
The same Internorm systems serve very different buildings. What changes is which qualities matter most.
Passive House new builds
The window is the weakest part of any wall, so a Passive House depends on it: certified components, triple glazing, airtight installation details and careful use of solar gain. The KF 410 in uPVC/aluminum is PHI-certified, and we quote Passive House drawings within 72 hours.
Cottages and cabins
Lake and forest sites bring wind-driven rain, wide temperature swings and views worth a whole wall. Aluminum cladding outside resists weather without repainting, and lift & slide doors open the living room to the deck.
City renovations
In a lived-in house the priorities are quiet, clean work, care for existing trim and masonry, and windows that cut street noise. Construction depth matters where walls are thin, and tilt & turn sashes make upper-floor glass easy to clean from inside.
Custom homes
Architect-led homes push size, sightlines and finish. Internorm offers four design styles, hundreds of exterior colours and several interior timbers, and wood/aluminum and uPVC/aluminum windows share one exterior, so a facade can mix both.
Net Zero and high-performance homes
Not every efficient home is certified. Many Net Zero and high-performance builds use the same triple-glazed systems as a Passive House, specified to the energy model rather than to a certificate.
Large openings
Lift & slide doors and frameless HX 300 fixed glazing let a room open to the landscape. The HS 330 takes panels up to 3.2 m high and sashes up to 400 kg, which is where engineering and installation planning start to matter.
What an InterHaus project involves
Every project is different, but most follow the same path from first drawings to the last adjustment.
- 01
Drawings and a first conversation
Send plans, elevations or a window schedule, or visit the Oakville showroom. Our product specialists have an architectural background, so we can work directly with your designer from the start.
- 02
System selection and quote
We match systems to your energy target, design style and budget, and price them. For Passive House projects the quote comes back within 72 hours.
- 03
Technical detailing
Sizes, opening types, glazing, colours and hardware are confirmed, and the installation details are worked out for your wall assembly. Architects can download CAD and Revit files from our trade portal.
- 04
Made to measure in Europe
Internorm windows and doors are built to their openings at its factories in Traun, Sarleinsbach or Lannach, Austria. Every unit is custom-sized; nothing comes off a shelf.
- 05
Delivery from our Ontario warehouse
Orders come through our local warehouse in Ontario and go to site on a schedule coordinated directly with your builder or architect.
- 06
Installation or supervision
Our qualified fitters install, or, if your builder installs, our team supervises on site for the first few days so handling, fitting and finishing meet our standard.
- 07
Handover and after-sale care
Windows and doors are checked for correct operation, and our team stays available afterwards for maintenance and adjustments, from greasing hinges to fine-tuning hardware.

Supply only, supply and install, or supply and supervision
Some projects already have a trusted installer; others want one team responsible from delivery to the last sealed joint. We offer three arrangements. Supply only covers delivery from our warehouse to your site, coordinated with your builder. Supply & install adds our own qualified fitters. Supply & supervision is for projects where a third party installs: our experienced team is on site for a few days to guide handling, fitting and finishing.
Whichever you choose, after-sale service is there for adjustments and maintenance. On Passive House work, supervision is often the sensible middle ground: your builder keeps control of the schedule, while the airtight connection between window and wall is checked by people who know the product.
“My preferred window supplier for any of our projects with ambitious sustainability or indoor comfort goals. They have been easy to work with, and responsive when I need a problem solved. Internorm products have served me well, and these are the best, most reliable suppliers I have found in eastern Canada.”
Five things that make a window package go smoothly
Most problems on a window job are decided long before delivery day. These are the habits that keep high-performance projects on track, whoever the builder is.
- Bring the windows into the design early. Sizes, opening directions and sill heights affect framing, finishes and furniture. Changing them after the openings are framed costs time on both sides.
- Decide who installs before you order. Installation details, fixings and membrane laps depend on who does the work and how, so settle supply only, install or supervision at the quote stage.
- Plan access for large units. Lift & slide panels and big fixed glazing need a clear path and lifting equipment on site. Check driveways, slopes and overhead lines in advance, especially at a cottage.
- Have the openings ready. Membranes and sill protection should be in place when the windows arrive, so the units go straight from crate to wall instead of waiting in the weather.
- Design shading with the glass. Internorm’s catalogue is direct about it: to avoid overheating, include shading. Large south and west glazing needs blinds, integrated I-tec Shading or exterior Venetian blinds planned from the start.
What to have ready before you call
You do not need final drawings to start a conversation, but the more we know, the sooner the quote is accurate. Useful items are floor plans and elevations with the window openings marked, the wall assembly or construction type, your energy target (Passive House, Net Zero or code), and any rooms with special requirements, such as a bedroom facing a busy street or a bathroom that needs privacy glass.
Timing matters too. Windows are made to measure in Europe, so ordering is tied to your construction schedule; tell us when the building will be ready for windows and we will plan back from that date. To see what the installation stage looks like, browse the project gallery. For certified builds, our Passive House windows page lists the systems, and architects and builders can register for the trade portal to download drawings and specifications for the full range.
Project questions
Yes. InterHaus supplies and installs across Canada, and also supplies projects in the United States and internationally. Many of our projects are in Ontario and Québec.
Yes, through Supply only or Supply & supervision. With supervision, our team is on site for a few days at the start of installation to guide handling, fitting and finishing.
No. Passive House is where Internorm’s performance shows most clearly, but we also supply custom homes, cottages and renovations. The same triple-glazed systems make an ordinary house quieter, drier and less costly to heat.
Yes. Send the schedule and drawings and we will review opening types, sizes and performance targets, flag anything that needs adjusting for the chosen system, and price it. We coordinate directly with your architect or designer throughout.
Yes, and we recommend it. At 217 Speers Rd. Unit 8 in Oakville you can operate tilt & turn windows, slide a lift & slide door, compare frame materials and see finishes in daylight, which tells you more than any photo.
Our after-sale team stays available for maintenance and adjustments, such as greasing hinges or fine-tuning hardware. Internorm also offers a 30-year repair assurance, so its products can be kept in full working order for three decades.
