Windows with Integrated Blinds — Sun Protection Built Between the Glass
Internorm’s windows with integrated blinds house the blind between the panes, where wind, rain and household dust can’t reach it. Three systems, KV 350, KV 440 and HV 450, bring shading, privacy, insulation and sound control into one window, supplied and installed across Canada by InterHaus.
What “blinds between glass” means in an Internorm window
In most homes the blind is an afterthought: a separate product screwed to the trim or a shutter bolted to the facade. Internorm builds it into the window instead. The blind is housed between the window panes, so the glass shields it from wind, rain and dirt while you raise, lower or tilt it from inside.
Internorm describes its windows with accessible integrated blinds as unique in the window industry. Accessible is the important word: with the clip-on/clip-off system, blinds can be changed or swapped later, which matters in a window with an expected service life of 40+ years.
The result is what Internorm calls quadruple protection in one window: sun protection, privacy, thermal insulation and sound reduction, delivered by a single frame with nothing mounted on the wall outside and nothing hanging on the room side.
- Blind housed between the panes, protected from weather and dust
- Venetian, Roman or Duette® blinds, in more than 15 colours
- Triple or quadruple glazing, concealed locking up to RC 2
Why blinds between the glass suit Canadian homes
Exterior shutters face freezing rain and snow; interior blinds gather dust. Putting the blind between the panes avoids both.
Nothing on the facade to ice up
No exterior housing for snow to pack into, no slats to rattle in a January wind, no guide rails to freeze. The glass takes the weather.
No dust, no slat-by-slat cleaning
The blind is out of reach of dust, pollen and pet hair. You wipe the glass with a damp cloth and mild cleaner, and the blind keeps the look it had on installation day.
Free heat from the low winter sun
With I-tec Shading in automatic mode, Venetian blinds open fully during the day so winter sunlight can warm the room, which Internorm notes helps reduce heating costs.
Shade when summer heat builds
South- and west-facing rooms overheat fast in July. Lower the blind, or tilt the Venetian slats, to cut glare and sun heat while keeping some daylight and view.
For facades that don’t allow shutters
Heritage-sensitive streets, condominium rules and carefully designed elevations often rule out shutters. Integrated blinds add sun protection with no change to the outside of the house.
No cords in children’s rooms
There are no visible cords or strings hanging from the blinds, so nurseries, playrooms and bedrooms stay free of loops and tangles.
Quieter rooms
Depending on the model, sound reduction runs from 38 up to 46 dB, a real benefit beside a busy road.
KV 350, KV 440 and HV 450 compared
All three put the blind between the panes and use triple gaskets with fully concealed locking. They differ in frame material, depth, insulation level and the design styles on offer.

Uw values are best-case figures with the optimum glass coating; your windows’ values depend on size, glazing and blind type. Not every blind option is available in every system.
Blind types: Venetian, Roman and Duette®
Internorm offers three kinds of blind between the panes, in more than 15 colours. Not every option is available in every window system or size, so we confirm the choice opening by opening.
Venetian blind
Horizontal slats you can raise, lower and tilt. Tilting keeps daylight and a view while taking glare off a screen or a sunlit floor. Venetian blinds are the type that I-tec Shading opens and closes automatically.
Roman blind
A fabric blind that gathers in soft folds as it rises and gives even, diffused light. A calmer choice for living rooms and traditional interiors where slats would feel too technical.
Duette® blind
The opaque option. Internorm lists the Duette® as a black-out blind that offers absolute privacy, the natural pick for bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms and windows that face the street.

Solar-powered blinds that manage the room temperature
I-tec Shading is Internorm’s energy self-sufficient drive for integrated blinds. A photovoltaic module and a back-up battery built into the window power the blind, so no electrical supply has to be run to each opening. In a renovation that is a real saving in disruption, because nobody has to chase cable into finished plaster or drywall.
In automatic mode, built-in sensors open and close the Venetian blinds at sunrise and sunset, and a temperature sensor lets the system make the most of winter sunlight with the slats fully open. You can override it at any moment, directly at the window, by remote control or from the I-tec SmartWindow app.
I-tec Shading is available on request across the range. See how it fits with Internorm’s other technologies on our I-tec innovations page.
Five ways to control your blinds
Internorm offers a choice of control rather than one fixed system, and many owners use several. If you leave for a week at the cottage and forget to close the south-facing blinds, I-tec Connect lets you do it from your phone.
- Directly at the window, for quick everyday changes
- Remote control, handy for tall or hard-to-reach windows
- The I-tec SmartWindow app on a smartphone or tablet
- Smart home systems through I-tec Connect and the Matter standard, including Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Samsung SmartThings, using a small bridge device from an Internorm partner
- Automatic mode, with temperature sensing and day/night recognition

Sun protection for renovations and protected facades
Internorm recommends windows with integrated blinds for renovation projects for a simple reason: you replace the window and gain sun protection in the same step, with no separate exterior system to plan, mount or maintain.
They are also one of the few answers for facades where shutters are not permitted. On a heritage-sensitive street, in a condominium with strict exterior rules or on a clean modern elevation, the blind sits invisibly inside the window.
Which window with integrated blinds is right for you?
Choose the KV 350 when a slim frame and a straightforward retrofit matter most. At 74 mm deep with a 70 mm frame and 42 mm sash, it is the most compact of the three, and it pairs with the KF 310 uPVC/aluminum window. It comes in home pure and the more traditional ambiente style.
Choose the KV 440 for the best insulation with a uPVC interior. I-tec Insulation granulate fills the frame chambers as standard, bringing Uw down to 0.64 W/m²K, and the flush design comes in home pure, home soft and ambiente. It is designed to sit alongside KF 410 windows elsewhere in the house.
Choose the HV 450 if you want real timber inside. Spruce, larch, oak or walnut on the room side, aluminum outside, a completely flush frame and sash, and the lowest Uw of the family at 0.62 W/m²K.

Integrated blinds: common questions
No. The blind is housed between the panes, protected from dust and debris, so it never needs cleaning slat by slat. You clean the glass surfaces with a damp cloth and a mild cleaning solution, as you would any window.
Yes. Internorm’s integrated blinds sit between accessible panes, and the clip-on/clip-off system lets blinds be changed or interchanged. That is useful if you redecorate, or want a different colour or blind type in a particular room.
Not with I-tec Shading. Its photovoltaic module and back-up battery make it self-sufficient, with no external power supply, which simplifies renovations and large glazed areas.
I-tec Shading is Smart Home ready through I-tec Connect. With a small bridge device from an Internorm partner, it can be controlled through the Matter wireless standard with systems such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit or Samsung SmartThings.
Yes. The KV 350 combines with the KF 310, the KV 440 with the KF 410, and the timber HV 450 with Internorm’s HF timber/aluminum windows and the HS 330 lift & slide door.
For complete darkness and privacy, the opaque Duette® black-out blind. If you prefer to wake to soft light, a Venetian blind with I-tec Shading can open automatically at sunrise. Availability varies by window system, so we confirm options for each opening.
