Internorm I-tec Innovations: Secure, Shading, Glazing and More
I-tec is the family of technologies Internorm develops in-house and builds into its windows and doors. Here is what each one does, which products carry it, and why it matters in a Canadian home.
Engineering you rarely see, and notice every day
Internorm describes its I-tec innovations as a series of industry-leading technologies for windows and doors. Most of them are invisible once installed: a locking flap hidden in the sash, glass bonded into the frame, insulation granules packed into the profile, a battery and solar module behind a blind. What you notice is the result: a window that is harder to force, warmer to stand beside, quieter and easier to clean.
Not every I-tec feature comes with every product, and that is the most useful thing to understand before you choose. I-tec Secure, for example, is standard on two window systems only. This page explains each technology and maps it to the products InterHaus supplies, so you can decide which features are worth building your order around.

A window that is virtually impossible to lever open
Most windows lock with pins on the sash that hook behind keepers on the frame, and a pry bar works by forcing those apart. I-tec Secure replaces the pins with flaps. When you turn the handle, the flaps swing out and press directly into the interior of the frame on all four sides, locking the sash in place so it is virtually impossible to lever out.
I-tec Secure is standard on the KF 510 and KF 520 premium-design uPVC and uPVC/aluminum windows. Both reach RC 2 N as standard with the optional lockable handle, and I-tec Secure is available up to resistance class RC 3 on request.
There is a cleaning bonus too. With few parts protruding from the sash and the frame hardware almost entirely concealed, the rebate is a smooth uPVC surface you can wipe in one pass. For a ground-floor bedroom or a cottage left empty through the winter, it is Internorm’s most secure window locking.

Blinds between the glass that power themselves
Internorm’s integrated blinds, Venetian, Roman or Duette®, sit inside the glazing, protected from dust, wind and rain. With I-tec Shading, Venetian or Duette® blinds are powered by a photovoltaic module and back-up battery, so they need no wiring and no external energy supply, a strong option in renovations where running cables is disruptive.
In automatic mode, built-in sensors open and close the Venetian blinds at sunrise and sunset and respond to temperature. In winter that means the blinds open fully to let low sun warm the room and reduce heating costs; in summer they help keep solar heat out. You can also operate them by app, remote control or by hand.
I-tec Shading is available in the integrated blinds range: the KV 350 and KV 440 uPVC/aluminum windows and the HV 450 timber/aluminum window. Blinds come in more than 15 colours and clip on and off for changes.
Control the blinds from anywhere
I-tec Connect makes I-tec Shading Smart Home-ready. Forgot to close the blinds before a trip? Adjust them from your phone or tablet wherever you are. The I-tec SmartWindow app is available for convenient operation on a phone or tablet.
To link I-tec Shading into a wider smart home, a small bridge device from an Internorm sales partner connects it via the Matter wireless standard to compatible systems such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit or Samsung SmartThings. Your blinds can then follow the same scenes and schedules as your lights and thermostat.
I-tec Glazing, I-tec Insulation and I-tec Core
I-tec Glazing glues the glass pane to the sash along its entire perimeter. That bond makes the sash stiffer and improves thermal insulation and sound reduction, and because the glass cannot be pushed out of the frame, it adds real burglary resistance. Most Internorm window systems include I-tec Glazing as standard, and every Internorm timber/aluminum system has it.
I-tec Insulation fills the hollow chambers of the frame with insulation granules pushed in under pressure, so there are no empty cavities for heat to cross. It is standard on the KF 410 and KF 510 windows and the KV 440 window with integrated blinds, and it is a big part of why the KF 410 uPVC/aluminum reaches a Uw as low as 0.62 W/m²K.
I-tec Core uses thin, laminated timber layers (LVL) in Internorm timber/aluminum windows such as the HF 510. Laminated timber is less prone to twisting, warping or splitting with moisture and temperature swings than solid timber, which keeps large sashes stable and makes timber/aluminum a sound choice even in humid coastal parts of Canada.

Knock twice, and the door opens
I-tec Open is a modern electronic day latch for Internorm aluminum entrance doors. Knock twice anywhere on the outside of the door and the vibration releases the sash, so it opens with almost no effort. The module is fully integrated into the frame and invisible from outside.
Because only knocking creates the right vibration, a gust of wind or a draft cannot open the door. You switch the function on with a fingernail-friendly push button, and a green light tells you at a glance whether the day latch is active. Note that when I-tec Open controls the electric door opener, the door is not locked.
It is a quiet convenience for children, anyone carrying shopping and wheelchair users. Explore the doors it fits on our entrance doors page.
I-tec Decor: thirteen printed finishes
I-tec Decor prints a design onto the interior uPVC profile in several layers, like an inkjet printer, then seals it with a top coat that protects against UV light and household cleaners. It is available on the KF 310 and KF 410 windows, the KV 350 and KV 440 windows with integrated blinds and the KS 430 lift & slide door.
Seven oaks
Oak light, Oak white, Oak natural, Oak grey, Oak olive grey, Oak black-grey and Oak tobacco, from pale, airy tones to deep, dark ones.

Spruce natural, Beech cream white and Beech light grey, for light, calm rooms.
Concrete grey
A mineral finish for industrial and minimalist interiors that pairs with concrete floors.

I-tec questions
No. A photovoltaic module and back-up battery power the blinds, so they work without an external power supply. That makes them practical for renovations and for openings where running cable is difficult.
It is standard on the KF 510 and KF 520 uPVC and uPVC/aluminum windows, which reach RC 2 N with the optional lockable handle. I-tec Secure is available up to RC 3 on request.
Yes, through I-tec Connect. A small bridge from an Internorm sales partner links I-tec Shading via the Matter standard to compatible systems including Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Samsung SmartThings.
The print is applied in several layers and sealed with a top coat that resists UV light and common cleaning products. Internorm’s warranty also covers I-tec Decor surfaces against unnatural colour change and cracking, mitre cracks excepted.
Only a double knock releases the day latch, so wind cannot open it, and a green light shows when it is on. When I-tec Open controls the electric door opener the door is not locked, so switch it off when you leave the house.
Some are standard, such as I-tec Glazing on most windows and I-tec Insulation on the KF 410; others, such as I-tec Shading or RC 3 security, are options. We itemise them in your quote so you can compare.
