HF 510 Wood-Aluminum Windows with Slim, Square Sightlines
The HF 510 is the slimmest of Internorm’s timber-aluminum windows: a 29 mm sash on a 70 mm frame in a crisp, square home pure profile. Its I-tec Core of thin laminated timber layers keeps it stable in larger sizes, while timber, insulating foam and aluminum combine for a Uw as low as 0.65 W/m²K.

For contemporary houses that want more glass and less frame
Contemporary architecture asks two things of a window: show as little frame as possible, and stay straight at large sizes. The HF 510 is built for both. Its sash is 29 mm wide on a 70 mm frame, against the 38 mm sash of the HF 410, and Internorm positions it as the slimmest window in its timber-aluminum range. The square-edged profile gives crisp shadow lines that suit flat roofs, simple gables, board-formed concrete and vertical cladding.
Slimness only works if the frame stays true. The HF 510 is built around Internorm’s I-tec Core technology: thin layers of timber laminated into one member. InterHaus describes this laminated veneer lumber (LVL) core as exceptionally stable and less inclined than solid timber to twist, warp or split under moisture and temperature swings, which is what allows the HF 510 to be made in even larger window sizes.
Because its aluminum cladding is shared with the KF 510 uPVC/Aluminum, the two windows can be mixed in one project without any visible change on the facade.
What sets the HF 510 apart
Why each detail matters on a Canadian site.
I-tec Core laminated timber
Thin bonded timber layers resist twisting and warping, so larger sashes stay square through years of humid summers and dry, heated winters.
The slimmest HF sightline
A 29 mm sash means more glass in the same opening, and more daylight in north-facing rooms during short winter days.
Timber, foam and aluminum
An insulating foam layer between timber and cladding helps the HF 510 reach Uw 0.65 W/m²K at an 85 mm construction depth.
Up to 47 dB
Sound reduction of 35–47 dB, the joint best among the HF windows, for homes near arterial roads, rail lines or flight paths.
Glass bonded all round
I-tec Glazing bonds the triple glazing to the sash on every side for stability, thermal performance and burglary resistance.
Lower-carbon materials
Sustainably sourced timber inside, and Internorm’s low-carbon iplus insulating glass, which it uses as standard in all its products.

Made for big views and tall rooms
Picture a double-height living room facing a ravine, or a cottage great room looking across a lake. These are the openings where a solid-timber sash can start to move over the years, and where the HF 510’s laminated core earns its place.
InterHaus also notes that the LVL core is highly resistant to moisture, which matters on exposed, humid sites such as coastal properties and waterfront cottages. Add premium coated triple glazing with a published 73% light permeability, and large rooms stay bright without giving up insulation.
For the doorway to the deck, Internorm suggests the HS 330 timber-aluminum lift-slide door, available with the same timber options, so the window wall and the sliding door read as one piece of joinery.
Choosing the HF 510’s finishes
The square profile of the HF 510 shows timber grain in long, straight runs, so the species is more visible than on a rounded sash. Spruce, larch, oak and walnut are offered, each factory finished in varnished, stained or oiled tones, along with opaque timber. Internorm’s RAL colour programme can also be applied to interior timber, which lets an architect match window frames to painted millwork or a feature wall.
Outside, the powder-coated aluminum comes in standard colours that are highly weather-resistant (except M916, which is facade quality), HiRest fine-structure and metallic finishes, intensive HDS tones, and EL01 matt or EL02 gloss for a stainless-steel look.
- Factory finished timber: no on-site staining or sealing
- Varnished, stained and oiled tones in spruce, larch and oak; walnut for darker schemes
- Opaque timber or RAL colours to match painted millwork
- Real samples at our Oakville showroom, since natural grain varies from print
HF 510 opening types
Tilt & turn, tilt-only and turn-only sashes, fixed glazing, and combined units with fixed and opening sections in one frame. Combining fixed and opening sections is the usual way to build a wide window wall while keeping fresh air exactly where the room needs it.

Slim does not mean cold
A narrower frame usually costs a window some insulation, because the frame insulates less well than modern triple glazing. The HF 510 offsets this with its timber, insulating foam and aluminum construction, reaching a Uw as low as 0.65 W/m²K. That is 0.01 behind the HF 410, a difference too small to feel in daily life.
What you will notice through an Ontario or Québec winter is the warm room-side glass, the absence of drafts at the triple gaskets, and less condensation on the inside of the pane in a well-ventilated home. The aluminum shell handles the freeze–thaw cycles, wind-driven snow and spring rain, so the timber never sees the weather.
The HF 510 also reaches up to 47 dB of sound reduction. Tell us which bedrooms face traffic, and we will choose the glass build-up for sound as carefully as for heat.
How the HF 510 compares
The HF 510 sits between the versatile HF 410 and the flush HF 520. Here are the key figures side by side, plus the uPVC/aluminum twin that shares its exterior.

“My preferred window supplier for any of our projects with ambitious sustainability or indoor comfort goals. They have been easy to work with, and responsive when I need a problem solved. Internorm products have served me well, and these are the best, most reliable suppliers I have found in eastern Canada.”
HF 510 questions
The HF 510 is engineered around a square, minimal profile. Its 29 mm sash and straight edges are the point of the product, so it comes in the home pure style only. If you need rounded or contoured profiles, the HF 410 covers all four design styles with almost identical thermal performance.
I-tec Core is Internorm’s timber core made from thin laminated layers, a form of laminated veneer lumber (LVL). Bonding many thin layers evens out the natural tensions in wood, so the frame is less likely to twist, warp or split with changes in moisture and temperature. On the HF 510 it is what allows larger window sizes without giving up the slim sash.
It is one of the strongest timber options for those sites. InterHaus describes the LVL core as highly resistant to moisture and well suited to coastal Canada, and the powder-coated aluminum shell protects the timber from wind-driven rain and spray. Pick a highly weather-resistant exterior colour: all of Internorm’s standard colours qualify except M916.
They look identical outside, so decide by interior and by room. The HF 510 gives you real timber. The KF 510 has a uPVC interior, slightly stronger figures on paper (Uw 0.64, up to 48 dB) and I-tec Secure locking available up to RC 3 on request. A sensible split is KF 510 for bathrooms, laundry and mudroom, HF 510 everywhere else.
Both use a 70 mm frame and an 85 mm construction depth. The difference is the sash: 29 mm on the HF 510 against 38 mm on the HF 410, which gives a visibly finer outline and a little more glass in the same opening.
Yes. Internorm recommends the HS 330 timber-aluminum lift-slide door alongside the HF 510, with the same timber options. It takes glass panels up to 3.2 m tall and sashes up to 400 kg, so a window wall and a wide patio opening can share one timber and one exterior colour.
